RDF Industry Group & November Conference

Congratulations to Adrian Irvine, our Waste To Energy Business Development Manager, who has been re-elected as the Vice-Chair of the RDF Industry Group.

Chairing a discussion on persistent organic pollutants (#POPS) and logistics at last week’s letsrecycle.com-organised RDF Conference with Oliver Lilley, Bob McIntyre (Senior Advisor on Chemicals at the Environment Agency) and Simon Lowe, Adrian said that POPS provide significant challenges and additional costs to the waste industry, not least in the segregation and safe processing of such items in the production of waste derived fuels (#RDF and #SRF).

POPS are found in upholstered furniture, textiles, and foams, and the Environment Agency (EA) has said that these items should be incinerated – and NOT recycled, reused, landfilled, or mixed with other non-POPS materials. The EA has given local authorities a deadline for compliance with POPS of 31 December 2022.
