Turning Waste into Clean Energy – Right Here in Newry!

As many of you know, household waste collected from across Northern Ireland is now processed at our state-of-the-art MSW facility in the Carnbane Industrial Estate.

Firstly we remove valuable recyclables, then we transform remaining material into two valuable fuel types:

1️⃣ RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) – exported to countries that harness both heat and electricity from this fuel, delivering maximum carbon savings.

2️⃣ SRF (Solid Recovered Fuel) – used as a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels in cement manufacturing across Europe.

Some may ask, “Why export the material?” The answer is simple:

✅ We’re diverting waste from landfill and recovering recyclables

✅ We’re massively cutting carbon emissions

✅ And we’re doing it at the lowest cost to the ratepayer
